hi there. i will probably be going to western university for health sciences in fall 2014. i've lived in the GTA my entire life and am not very familiar with any city west of missisauga, so i have a few questions about life in london.

- is public transportation within the city decent?
- how is rent? would i be able to find a decent room/bachelor for - i'd prefer to rent in an area that has grocery stores, department stores, laundromat etc within walking distance (<2km). which areas of town would be good for this?
- any areas to avoid? i'm living in downtown oshawa right now, so i have a pretty high tolerance for sketchy, but i'd like to stay away from any area with extreme amounts of crime or poverty.

if there's anything else you think is relevant please feel free to tell me. thank you very much

The bus service is not bad. Rents are reasonable. Try kijiji London http://london.kijiji.ca/f-real-estate-apartments-condos-bachelor-studio-W0QQCatIdZ211 to look for one.

Really anything north of the tracks will be a better area. Downtown area is not the good area, avoid Kipps Lane. Most places have onsite laundry. Try finding a place close to a mall and get a bus map as they show where shopping is and bus service.

London is a two hour drive from the GTA, go down and look around.

With a University and a Community College, the city has "student housing " for sure. UWO has been there for about 100 years, so they do have rental housing available in the city.

The London Free Press is the daily paper, find it on line and look at the rental ads.

Get busy.

You may have to get use to the British accent.
